The Law of Sowing and Reaping

Preacher’s Pulpit by Dr. Joe Tims
The Law of Sowing and Reaping
Galatians 6:7-8
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (8) For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
INTRODUCTION
God, the Creator of the universe, is a God of law and order.
He created the universe with certain laws which govern it.
The foundation of His law is:
(Gal 6:7) “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”
It is the “the Law of Sowing and Reaping.”
The foolishess of humanity is believing that they can act contrary to this law without reaping a harvest of consequence.
Therefore, we should not expect things to be contrary to His natural law.
Plant a seed and it produces after its kind; Do not expect watermelon to grow on corn stalk.
God is a God of law and order.
His Word declares that in the spiritual realm, laws are just as fixed as in physical.
Sin and pay the consequence!
(Heb 12:6) “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
Notice some who don’t believe in the Law of Sowing and Reaping!
I. Sinners Who Reject Jesus As Saviour
A. Some expect to be saved apart from obedience to the gospel.
B. But the Gospel declares what happens to those who reject the gospel. (2 Thess 1:8 9) “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;”
C. There is only one name under heaven whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
D. There is only one way to be saved!
(Eph 2:8) “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
E. We must believe what the Bible says:
(Luke 13:3) “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
F. We must believe in God’s way of salvation.
(Rom 10:10) “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
G. God is no respecter of persons.
II. Saints Who Do Not Expect to Give Account for Their Sins
(2 Cor 5:10) “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
A. The Bible declares that a saint is to come out of sin, not live in sin.
(2 Cor 6:17-18) “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (18) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
B. God’s people have become comfortable in sin and have forsaken the way of the Lord.
C. They have adopted the standards of the world.
D. They have forgotten the law of sowing and reaping.
III. Churches Members Who Have Forgotten How Their Church Grows
A. Many expect it to grow without them putting forth any effort.
1. Growth will not come just because we wish it will happen.
2. It will only come when we get to work!
B. Many think the church will grow if they have:
1. An exciting program.
2. Beautiful facilities. “If we build it they will come” doesn’t work with a church!
C. Growth is the result of people being obedient to truth.
1. Too many expect growth with them doing nothing.
2. They expect attendance to increase without them inviting and encouraging others to come.
3. They expect neighbors and family to be saved without witnessing to them with Gospel of Jesus Christ.
D. A Church grows when:
(Luke 14:23) “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.”
IV. Saints Who Expect to Be Spiritual Without Any Discipline In Their Lives
(Col 3:1-2) “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
A. No Bible Study
B. No Prayer
C. No real commitment
CONCLUSION
Lost person, if you expect to go to heaven without Christ you will spend eternity in Hell.
Saint, if you expect to live in sin and not receive the consequences, you are in for a heart break of all heart breaks.
Church member, if you expect your church to growth without your input you will see it die!
Saint, if you expect to be spiritual trying to live on yesterday experience with God you are going dry up and blow away.
