The Crisis of Christianity
INTRODUCTION:
The single most import part of any building is the FOUNDATION.
If the FOUNDATION is inferior, then the entire building will not last when the storms come.
Such is the case with CHRISTIANITY, ….”If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psa 11:3)
The word FOUNDATIONS (figuratively) means: “political or moral support or purpose”
This word has to do with SOCIETY or way of life.
We can say that David is saying, “If the Basic Christian Beliefs are destroyed, then SOCIETY will CRUMBLE!
Nations, Churches, Families and Individuals alike are falling by the wayside because of the destruction of the basic Christian foundation.
Let us today notice this Crisis of Christianity:
• THE OLD FASHION CHRISTIAN HOME
(Psa 127:1a) “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it . . .. ”
◦ The number one problem in SOCIETY is the DESTRUCTION of the Home.
◦ The Bible and History alike testifies to the fact that the Biblical Home is the key to survival.
◦ The Home is based upon three principles:
▪ LEADERSHIP – Husband
(Eph 5:23) “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.”
▪ FELLOWSHIP – Wife
(Titus 2:5) “To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”
▪ FOLLOWSHIP – Children
(Eph 6:1) “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.”
◦ The HOME of today is so far from the Bible Plan that unless a REVIVAL takes place in the HOME, there is no hope for it!
• RESPECT FOR THE LORD’S DAY
(Isa 56:2) “Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.”
◦ Preacher, this not for today!
◦ How wrong you are, Christ did something even more wonderful than creating the World, He completed redemption for SINNERS.
◦ He died, was buried and arose that third day!
◦ To Worship Christ on Sunday is testimony of Victory of His finish work!
◦ America use to set aside the Lord’s Day for His glory.
◦ Not so today there is:
▪ Work over Worship
▪ Fun over Fellowship
▪ Reunions over Revivals
▪ Self over Sacrifice.
◦ “GOD’S HOLY DAY HAS BECOME MAN’S HOLIDAY!”
• BELIEF IN GOD’S HOLY WORD
(1 Pet 1:25) “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
◦ All you have to do is look around at all the new Bibles coming forth.
◦ The cry today is, “Give us a Bible that everyone can understand.”
(1 Cor 2:14) “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
◦ Even Fundamental Baptists are straying from the Word of God.
◦ Take a little test with me about believing God’s Word:
▪ Abstaining from appearances of evil
(1 Th 5:22) “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
▪ Forgiving those that sin against you!
(Eph 4:32) “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
◦ How well do we really believe the Bible?
• LOVE FOR YOUR CHURCH HOME
(Eph 5:25) “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”
◦ Your love for your Church is the outward evidence of your heart love for Jesus.
◦ Do you really love your Church”
▪ Attendance – Heb 10:25-26
▪ Tithes – Mal 3:10
▪ Win Souls – Psa 126:5-6
◦ What kind of Church is this one, if everyone is just like YOU?
◦ Church problems are a sign of heart problems.
CONCLUSION:
Christianity is in a Major Crisis and God’s people must restore the basic foundations. We must as David put it in verse 1 . . .”In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?” Will you join with me in re-establishing these foundations today by coming to the Altar as we are to Him as He is? Praying that God will send a REVIVAL today! As we come!
