Preacher’s Pulpit
Creation
TEXT: Genesis 1:1
INTRODUCTION: There has been much confusion concerning the origin of the universe and life as we know it. Satan has tried to discredit the Bible’s account of Divine Creation by God and God alone. But, it takes more faith to believe in some form of evolution than it does to believe “And God said . . . and it was so.” We need to consider what the Bible says in Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Evolution is a false science that is in direct conflict with the Bible account of creation (1 Timothy 6:20). Like most issues, the problem of those who teach evolution runs deeper than the issue itself. The basic problem is the rejection of the Bible as the only complete revelation of God to man (Romans 1:28). If you believe the Bible, you cannot accept evolution. Accept evolution and you testify that you don’t believe the Bible. There is no middle ground, there is no compromise. There is no such thing as Christian evolution. The Bible is very clear on this issue and there is no need to doubt its claims. If one lack’s faith concerning God creating the world and all its inhabitants, then they will have a difficult time believing any other doctrinal truth found in the Bible, including salvation.
I. THE BIBLE ATTRIBUTES THE EXISTENCE OF THIS UNIVERSE AND ALL THINGS THEREIN TO THE DIRECT, SUPERNATURAL WORK OF GOD.
A. Declared without apology in the first verse of the Bible – Genesis 1:1.
B. The Psalmist sang of God’s work in creation – Psalm 146:5, 6.
C. Isaiah wrote plainly that God is the Author of creation – Isaiah 45:18.
D. In the Words of our Savior, we see this truth – Mark 13:19.
NOTE: To deny the Bible account of creation is to deny the Deity of Christ.
E. Paul’s address to the people of Athens presents God as the Creator of the world and all things therein – Acts 17:24.
F. In his epistle to the Colossians, Paul revealed Christ’s part in the work of creation – Colossians 1:16, 17.
G. John sets forth the work of God in creation as a reason for praising the Lord – Revelation 14:7.
II. THE BIBLE SPECIFIES HOW GOD CREATED ALL THINGS.
A. Creation was accomplished by God’s Power – Jeremiah 27:5; 32:17.
B. Creation was planned and executed by God’s Wisdom – Jeremiah 10:12.
C. Creation was an exhibition of God’s Sovereignty – Jeremiah 10:12.
NOTE: This means that God did not consult with anyone else, but made all the decisions of creation Himself.
III. THE BIBLE PLAINLY TEACHES THAT THE CREATION WORK WAS ACCOMPLISHED IN SIX LITERAL DAYS.
A. The wording of the Scriptures points to a literal solar day (24 hours) – Genesis 1:5.
NOTE: An era or period like a thousand years would not be divided into evening and morning.
B. The seventh day, which was designated to the Jews as the day of worship, is connected to the other six days of creation, so that if one is a literal day, then the others are also – Exodus 20:11; 31:17.
IV. THE BIBLE EXPLANATION OF THE LAWS OF REPRODUCTION EMPHASIZES THE DIVINE WORK OF CREATION – Genesis 1:24.
NOTE: The natural law of reproduction and the natural limitations that restrict mixed breeding between certain classes of animals shows the Divine design in creation and refutes the theory of evolution.
V. THE BIBLE EXPLAINS GOD’S SPECIAL CREATION OF MAN AS CONTRARY TO THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION.
A. The plan disclosed – Genesis 1:26.
B. The method declared – Genesis 2:7.
NOTE: This sets forth a direct-Divine act in making the first man and did not allow for a long process of development taught by evolutionists.
C. The distinction made – Genesis 2:20; 5:1, 2; Isaiah 45:12.
D. Man is distinguished from brute creation and not identified with it as some claim and there was not a suitable mate for man found among all the other creatures.
CONCLUSION: Creation has been a controversial issue down through the centuries. Many modern day Christians have taken a compromising stand on this fundamental Bible doctrine. God’s Word says it and we must believe it. God’s Word is true without error on this issue as well as all others. The very fact that the Bible’s account of Special creation has been so attacked is proof enough that it is accurate. Why would Satan so attack something if it were not true?
